Author's Purpose

There are so SO many reasons that people write and create texts. Remember any time you identify purpose, you should respond with an infinitive verb phrase: perhaps, ''to inform,'' ''to persuade,'' ''to entertain,'' or ''to express.'' On Wednesday, we will be reading ''The Lost Boys'' by Sara Corbett to look at the various purposes that can be employed within just one article and its various illustrations and photographs. Check out this PowerPoint and the unit beginning on p. 508. Also, check out this YouTube video of a fun collection of ''what's the purpose?'' clips!
