Big6 Steps In Class
This post is a plan and record of our in-class efforts towards our research project. Follow along to make sure you have "checked off" each of the tasks so you stay ahead of the curve!
Wed. 1/18
Today, we did preliminary research using all of those generic sites like Wikipedia, About.com, factretriever.com, and Britannica. Your "K" and "W" columns are due FRIDAY. We will generate the "H" column on Friday to help you find specific resources for your actual research.
HW: Finish the "KW" columns for Friday.
Fri 1/20
Today, we review MLA citations and annotations with a practice worksheet. You also have your pre-printed guide to remind you about the key format of MLA. We also use the Pathfinder to find a useful, pre-approved source. You are only creating a citation and annotation for these sources.
HW: Start the formal Annotated Bib on your Office 365 account using this first resource.
Mon 1/23
Today, we use Schrock's Evaluation Guide to find one source on the internet or in a database. Also, find the third (and last required) source to cite and annotate. Both (all) sources should be in the formal Annotated Bib on your Office 365 account. Please be sure to "Share" the document with me (Elizabeth Heck) for grading.
HW: Finish Annotated Bib and submit via Office 365 by Tuesday night.
Wed 1/25
Today, we take notes from our three annotated sources. Be sure to create three subtopics (questions) to answer and take at least 8 notecards worth of notes for each subtopics. Please use the method described on the PowerPoint.
HW: Finish notecards for Friday.
Thu 1/26
Today, we evaluate our own research process using Kulthau's ISP. Reflect on what work you have done and what work still needs to be done before the final project due Wed. Feb. 1st.
HW: Catch up if necessary; finish any works in progress for research.
Fri 1/27
Yesterday, we learned about the final Comparison Project that culminates and applies our research. Today, we use our computers as appropriate for the last computer day in class! In theory, you should be starting your PowerPoint-based infographic. NOTE: We are NOT NOT NOT making a PowerPoint slideshow!
HW: Finish all necessary elements for Comparison Project.
