Today, we read the children's story Captain America: A Origin Story to find the Hero's Journey of Steve Rogers. You could go to the children's section in your local library, choose really any book and the Hero's Journey will be there. Especially for children, the heroes of storybooks must overcome obstacles to achieve their goals. Ultimately, this is the entire purpose of the Hero's Journey in texts: to illustrate the heroism within.

We will be "leveling up" our analysis of the Hero's Journey tomorrow by reading a more complicated Ray Bradbury short story. We will continue to review and practice analyzing stories leading up to a QUIZ Friday where you will independently cold-read an even shorter short story and identify the Journey, character archetypes, and hero type for the story.

Watch the video below if you would like to revisit today's lesson from our conveniently scheduled "'Merica Monday" (Lakeside Homecoming 2015).
