There are five sections on the Odyssey test. The entire test is skills-based, rather than content-based. This means that the reading and analysis skills that we have learned throughout the unit will be in the questions of the test. You get to show just how many skills you have! The sections on the test will be as follows:

  1. Epic Hero--I will give you definitions of an epic hero. You give examples of how Odysseus in the Odyssey shows these character traits and events.

  2. Characterization--Multiple choice questions using direct and indirect characterization

  3. Literary Devices--Multiple choice questions about simile, epic simile, and epithet

  4. Epic Simile Comparisons--I will give you two quotes to choose from. Both include epic similies. You will explain WHAT is being compared in addition to WHY those two are similar.

  5. Cold Read--You will read a brief section of the Odyssey that we did not read. You will know what is happening from our review, however. Then, you will answer a few multiple choice comprehension questions, a constructed response question (R-A-C-E), and a quote-based chart of imagery.

Remember, we have been completing these same exercises throughout our Odyssey unit. Make sure to review your notebooks and the PowerPoint!
