Hooks, Bridges, and maybe a River, too.

This diagram is a variation of the common understanding for the elements of an introduction paragraph.

Yesterday, you received a list of strategies for writing intriguing, alluring hooks. REMEMBER: a hook is NOT just a simple yes/no question, but instead sparks questions in the reader that will be answered through your essay. The hook's job is to focus your reader away from the distractions of life to the purpose and content of your paper.

Bridges connect the dots between your hook and your thesis. This is the section that outlines the little bit of context your reader will need for understanding your thesis and the rest of your essay. Tomorrow, we will practice the variant styles of relationships between hooks and theses you can use in your writer's arsenal.
